14th International Symposium on Stability, Handling and Use of Liquid Fuels

Theme: Is the Quality of Our Fuel Getting Better or Worse? What is the Future?

Summary

Location: Isle of Palms, South Carolina USA

Dates: October 4-8, 2015

Attendees: 194 Delegates, 32 Guests

The Wild Dunes Resort in Isle of Palms, South Carolina was the venue for the 14th International Symposium organized by the International Association for Stability, Handling and Use of Liquid Fuels. Due to Hurricane Joaquin off the coast of South Carolina during the weekend prior to the symposium, there was an unprecedented amount of rain in the Charleston area that caused wide-spread flooding. However, we were fortunate that very few people cancelled and we ended up with one ofour largest conference thanks to our hearty delegates!

The symposium began with an opening dinner held at Wild Dunes on Sunday, 4 October, and ended with the a closing BBQ at the Grand Pavilion & Gazebo on the Atlantic Ocean at Wild Dunes on Thursday, 8 October. The Gala Awards Dinner was held on Wednesday evening in the Cotton Dock at the Boone Hall Plantation, a typical Southern cotton plantation from the 1700's.

There were 194 delegates and 32 spouses/guests in attendance from 15 countries. Delegates viewed 13 poster presentations and 16 commercialexhibits at the symposium. The Keynote Address was presented by Mark Darley, President, Lloyds Register-Americas, via remote connection. The title of the presentation was "Global Marine Fuel Trends 2030."It was an excellent presentation relating to the theme of the 14th International Symposium.

Three other young researchers who submitted abstracts for the award were also given the opportunity to present their work at the symposium as a poster and also received gratis registration. They were Alexander McFarlane, the University of Sheffield (UK); Jinxia Fu, University of Hawaii (USA); and Moshe Rabaev, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (ISRAEL).

The Nahum Por Award was presented to Howard L. Chesneau, Fuel Quality Services, for his leadership, support and promotion of the Association over the past several years.
