The Chevron Award of Excellence in Honor of John Bacha was presented exceptionally to two young scientists this time. One award was presented to Rachel Deese from U.S. Naval Research Laboratory for her paper entitled: “Profiling of the Organic Nitrogen Compounds in Marginally Stable Diesel Fuels Using GCxGC-Nitrogen Chemiluminescence Detection”. The other awardee was Krege Christison, Chevron Energy Technology Center, USA for his paper entitled: “Exploring Jet Fuel Thermal Oxidative Deposition Through Statistical Analysis of Mass Spectral Data and Characterization of Quartz Crystal Microbalance Deposits”.

There were six paper submissions in total from five countries. The other four young researchers who submitted abstracts for the award were: Soraya Aminane, Onera Université Paris Saclay (France); Chrysovalanti Tsesmeli, National Technical University of Athens (Greece); Matthew Dwyer, The University of Sheffield (UK); Moshe Rabaev, Israeli Air Force (Israel).

  • David Evans, Defense Science and Technology

Fifty-one presentations were given in ten sessions that included the following topics. One new topical session ‘Data Analytics and Model Developments’ was included for the first time:

  • Session 1: Fuel Supply Chain Storage, Handling and Logistics
  • Session 2: Fuel Contaminants
  • Session 3: Fuel Additives
  • Session 4: Avgas, Gasoline, Diesel and Marine Fuels
  • Session 5: Thermal Stability
  • Session 6: Data Analytics and Model Developments
  • Session 7: Fuel Microbiology
  • Session 8: Aviation Fuels
  • Session 9: Fuel Testing and Test Methods – Section 1
  • Session 9: Fuel Testing and Test Methods – Section 2
  • Session 10: Fuel Properties and Effects
