16th International Symposium on Stability, Handling and Use of Liquid FuelsTheme: A World of Diverse Fuels – Latest News from Research, Technology Developments and Field ExperiencesSummary Location: Long Beach, California USA Dates: 8 – 12 September 2019 Attendees: 169 Delegates, 19 Guests Chairman: Dietmar Posselt The Hilton Long Beach Hotel in Long Beach, California was the venue for the 16th International Conference organized by the International Association for the Stability, Handling and Use of Liquid Fuels. The conference began with an opening reception held at the Hilton Long Beach on Sunday, 8 September, and ended with a closing reception in the Hilton Outside Courtyard Plaza on Thursday, 12 September. The Awards Dinner was held on Wednesday evening on the historical Queen Mary. There were 169 delegates and 19 spouses/guests in attendance from 16 countries. Delegates viewed 19 poster presentations and 10 company exhibits at the conference. The Keynote address was presented by Dr. Jennifer Holmgren, CEO at LanzaTech. The title of her presentation was “No Carbon Left Behind: Alcohol to Jet”. It was an excellent presentation relating to the theme of the 16th International Conference. The Chevron Award of Excellence in Honor of John Bacha was presented exceptionally to two young scientists this time. One award was presented to Rachel Deese from U.S. Naval Research Laboratory for her paper entitled: “Profiling of the Organic Nitrogen Compounds in Marginally Stable Diesel Fuels Using GCxGC-Nitrogen Chemiluminescence Detection”. The other awardee was Krege Christison, Chevron Energy Technology Center, USA for his paper entitled: “Exploring Jet Fuel Thermal Oxidative Deposition Through Statistical Analysis of Mass Spectral Data and Characterization of Quartz Crystal Microbalance Deposits”. There were six paper submissions in total from five countries. The other four young researchers who submitted abstracts for the award were: Soraya Aminane, Onera Université Paris Saclay (France); Chrysovalanti Tsesmeli, National Technical University of Athens (Greece); Matthew Dwyer, The University of Sheffield (UK); Moshe Rabaev, Israeli Air Force (Israel). The Nahum Por Award was presented to Tedd Biddle, Pratt & Whitney, for his long service to the aviation fuel community and his continuous technical support and advocacy of the IASH vision and mission. IASH Lifetime Achievement Awards were given to the following individuals for their dedicated efforts in the field of various military and commercial fuels throughout their careers:
